I heard elsewhere that it also improves holding on to poor connections. Since the upgrade I've noticed that the connect speed has dropped from around 4.3Mbps to 3.3Mbps, and the Noise margin has gone up from the 0-5db range to 8-11db. This will hopefully result in less/no dropouts, so I'm not unhappy about the drop in speed. However, I had also suggested to my ISP that the dropouts might be caused by the exchange's ADSLMax controller trying to be too generous with connect speeds, resulting in Noise margins touching on 0db and hence dropouts. So I don't really know whether it's the upgrade or BT that has caused the change...
