Hi
I have Sky Max broadband with a V1 white Netgear router. Recently on several occasions (about 4) it has seemed to just stopped working. When this "lock up" happens I have no internet access and I also can't connect to the PC from the Xbox (to steam videos). Only way to get it back on is to pull the power cord out and re-boot. Is this an indication that the router is on it's way out? I have had Sky BB for approx 18 months now with this router. |

If it has, and you can, it will give you the state of the line, and possibly it has a router reset function. The control panel should also give basic line parameters. If it has a control panel, and you can't access it, other than by a power cycle, then I'd suspect that the router is knackered. Is there any difference in the lights between when it is working and when it is locked up? What you need to establish is whether it is a line problem, causing it to drop sync, and stop transmitting data, or a router hardware (possibly a thermal heat related) problem. |

I cannot access the router 'control panel' when it has locked up. I think when it's locked up only the power light is illuminated. When it's working normally I have 4 lights illuminated - Power, Wireless, Internet and network port 1 all illuminated. I may get in touch with sky get them to send me a new one. |

My mother's netgear router does much the same (no, not a Sky one). My solution was to put it onto a 24hr mains timer and have it switched off for a few hours each night. Works fine for her. Chris |

I had a problem with the router locking up (symptoms as described - but the lights did not change) which was cured by mounting the feet so that the unit was upright (lights vertical). -- PeeGee "Nothing should be able to load itself onto a computer without the knowledge or consent of the computer user. Sounds like a thermal problem. Mounting it vertically so as to get better air convection over the PCB may help, try different vertical orientations, one may put the errant component at the bottom where it will be cooler. Getting a new one from Sky is a good idea. Only problem with exchanges is that if you don't get a new one, only a reconditioned one, you may get someone elses intermittent fault. Bit like cars, and mainframes, send a board back, tests ok on a bed of nails tester, it has a thermal problem, it gets shipped to another site. |

Will try turning it around - if no better will contact Sky. Thanks for all the help guys. |
