Hope this is noddy.
I have a DG834GT box and just recently two of the "lights" in the middle, round one and the post with circle at bottom, seem to spend their time blinking away.... and they never used to. Nothing is happening on my local area connection status. Should I worry and if so what should I do? Many thanks Aj |

Here's a photo of the lights on my DG834GT http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5749/img1638zo2.jpg The left light is the power: that should stay on continuously. Jut visible to the right is a tick-mark: that flashes amber while the router is booting and then goes out. The "lollipop" light is the wireless light. The "letter-i-in-a-circle" is the DSL light. The 1 and 2 are two of the lights for the four Ethernet ports. All these should be on continuously but should flash briefly and randomly as data is transferred - typically you will see one of: - wireless+DSL (a wireless PC talks to the internet) - wireless and 1, 2, 3 or 4 (a wireless PC talks to an Ethernet PC) - 1 and 2 etc (two Ethernet PCs talk to each other) - 1, 2, 3 or 4 and DSL (an Ethernet PC talks to the internet) Very occasionally I've seen my DG834GT get into a state where the DSL light flickers rapidly and continuously without any other light flickering. This corresponds with PCs being unable to access the internet (ping news.bbc.co.uk times-out) and is cured by unplugging the DSL cable for a couple of seconds (or by rebooting the router). It seems to get into a state where it does this repeatedly for an hour or so every couple of months. It may be due to overheating which is why I've got my router standing on a metal hard disk cage to keep it off the desk and allow air to circulate underneath it. |

Many thanks for this detailed and graphical response. Must be something like that because they are now very quiet. I tend to unplug over night and have got out of that routine recently and been lazy and just left it on.... Thanks again Aj |

Hi,
Turning the router on and off my lead the exchange to think there is a line fault or other issues with your broadband. This may lead the the speed of the connection dropping. Once you are connected then leave the router on and only power it off when needed to reset it. Kind Regards Simon |

Normally once the system is et up, BT only monitors noise related resynchs. Leatswise mines been up and dwn a lot recently due to power issues, and its synching fine, and the BRAS is still good. The only problems I get with a reboot, are that chances are it will synch to a higher speed than it can realistically maintain, so its a bit flakey for a half a day or so before it finds a synch speed it is happy with. |

Steve. Wondered about this, so went into setup and disabled wireless, as I don't use. Will be interesting to see what happens to my usage, as I seem to be using more than normal.. Thanks for the response Aj |
