Is Sky Netgear DG834GT locked?

Hi,

Is a "Sky Brtoadband" Netgear DG834G likely to be locked?

Can it be unlocked without mucking about
with hardware (such as speedtouch requires)?

Any ideas as to the process?

I had a bit of a look but nothing definitive popped out.

Don't know, simply reset it and see what happens
1. Press and hold the Default Reset button until the Test LED turns on
(about 10 seconds).

2. Release the Default Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.

What does it say now?

Unfortunately I don't presently own it. I just want it as a spare
router/WAP however there is no point in me getting it if it
can't be used on anything other than Sky BB.

Yes. Basically, as supplied, the Sky DG834GT won't see the stock
Netgear firmware as a valid Upload. You first nedd to run a Netgear
"Recovery Utility" - after that it will reflash to firmware on the Netgear
site.

AFAIK the Sky version of the DG834GT uses standard hardware and custom
firmware with a DSL login of its_own_MAC_code@skydsl and a password of
which I don't know the origin - maybe it is manually set or maybe also
derived from the hardware.

To "unlock" the device re-flash it with regular Netgear DG834GT firmware
that is available from the download pages of the Netgear web site

It's a good router for £5 qiuid.
i would reccomend using the DGTeam firmware though .

a friend of mine has sky broadband and the username and password are already
programmed into the router - with no user option to change it.
in other words the router has only the one use - sky BB
